If you’re like the vast majority of adults, you’ve got an area of your body that you’d like to improve upon. For many people, it’s unwanted fat that’s the problem. We tend to learn pretty quickly that stubborn fat is referred to as such for a reason. Diet and exercise do not always get us the results we want. When they don’t we may feel uncertain about where to turn. If you’re in this situation, we’ve got options. Here, we compare two common fat-reducing treatments, ALLURA laser sculpting and CoolSculpting.
ALLURA is a laser system with the ability to quickly liquefy fat cells while also penetrating fibrous tissue to promote spontaneous skin contraction. It is considered a laser-assisted liposuction procedure, but one that requires only a small incision and local anesthetic to perform. Clinical studies on the ALLURA™ device have indicated that patients achieve significant cosmetic results within 2 weeks after treatment, and the improvements continue for several weeks.
CoolSculpting is a well-known non invasive fat-reducing treatment. This process works by targeting a specific area with freezing temperatures. During the procedure, the target area is held by suction in between two panels. These are cooled to a precise temperature and remain in place for 30 to 60 minutes. After treatment, fat cells in the area form crystals that destroy their outer membrane. These cells are eliminated through the lymphatic system. Studies indicate that patients may begin to notice subtle contouring improvements in 2 weeks. It takes approximately 12 weeks for the entire fat-flushing process to complete. Most patients need a series of 3 to 4 treatments to achieve optimal fat reduction.
Both ALLURA and CoolSculpting are conservative procedures that can be performed on various areas of the body. These include:
- Neck and jawline
- Backs of the arms
- Stomach
- Thighs
- Back/bra area
We’re Here to Help You Decide!
Sometimes, the more options that you have for cosmetic treatments, the more difficult it feels to choose. That’s why its beneficial to consult with an experienced provider. We help our patients determine their best treatment option by listening to their desired improvements and providing information about various appropriate therapies. When it comes to fat reduction, CoolSculpting and ALLURA both offer proven results. Where they differ is in invasiveness, timing of results, and also action on the skin. Because ALLURA is a laser treatment, it has a mild to moderate tightening effect on the skin, where CoolSculpting does not.
