Are You Curious about Kybella?

The face, like the rest of the body, changes over time. From childhood to adulthood and throughout our adult years, we witness aesthetic transformation triggered by structural remodeling. At first, it is the maturing of bones and connective tissues. Then, it is the gradual breakdown of these aspects of the body. We know these changes will happen and still may not be ready for them. Some cosmetic concerns that are typically associated with age can surprise a person by appearing far earlier than expected. A double chin is one of them.

A double chin is technically called submental fullness. This problem may relate to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, which causes the skin to loosen. It may relate to weight in some instances. Regardless of the cause of submental fullness, this problem can be resolved easily. Kybella is a popular option for doing so. Here, we discuss why.

  • Kybella is an FDA-approved treatment for submental fullness.

Regardless of how badly a person wants to correct a cosmetic concern, they want to know treatment is safe and effective. When it comes to injectables, it is FDA-approval that indicates a standard of success based on thorough clinical testing. Kybella was approved by the FDA in 2015. Before that time, its ingredient deoxycholic acid was a popular treatment in several other countries.

  • Kybella is derived from natural ingredients.

Deoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in Kybella, is a naturally-occurring chemical. It is an essential aspect of digestion as it is involved in breaking down dietary fat. Understanding the characteristics of deoxycholic acid, researchers sought to find out what the chemical could do if injected into an isolated pocket of fat, such as the double chin. Having performed successfully, deoxycholic acid became a common cosmetic treatment for this concern.

  • Kybella destroys fat cells.

There are two ways to sculpt the body. One is to lose weight with diet and exercise. The other is to undergo treatment like liposuction or Kybella. Natural weight loss works by shrinking fat cells across the entire body, including the face. The thing is, natural weight loss doesn’t always target specific problem areas. Fat cells are also still there, only smaller. After Kybella injections, the body systematically eliminates the damaged fat cells forever.

Details about Kybella You Need to Know

Fat can be a frustrating problem no matter where it sticks to the body. For many years, a solution for double-chin fat has been desired. People of all ages can develop a little extra fat under the chin. As the skin and superficial tissue ages and loses collagen, the appearance of a double-chin can worsen. Kybella is an injectable solution that had been long-awaited and, as expected, wonderfully received by patients everywhere. We are pleased to offer Kybella as a double-chin treatment in our Denver office. If you’ve been considering how you can get rid of your double-chin, here are a few things you need to know about the injectable approach.

Results Take Time

Some injectable treatments provide immediate results. Kybella doesn’t happen to be one of them. When Kybella, the brand name for deoxycholic acid, is injected into a localized area of fatty tissue, it dismantles fat cells. By weakening the cellular membrane of fatty tissue, deoxycholic acid allows the body to eliminate fat content in the treated area. This doesn’t happen overnight. In fact, the appearance of the chin may look a little worse for wear at first. Over the course of several weeks, though, fat elimination leads to a noticeably better profile.

Skin Elasticity Matters

The purpose of Kybella treatment is to reduce fat. Deoxycholic acid is an organic substance that the body makes to help break down dietary fat. Fat metabolism is the sole purpose of this acid. When treating a double-chin with Kybella, it is important that the provider assesses skin elasticity, how much stretch and retraction the skin has, in order to predict the outcome of treatment. To be fair, neither CoolSculpting nor liposuction of the neck tightens loose skin either. When elasticity is poor, we may suggest a combination of fat-reducing and skin-tightening for best results.

Expect Downtime

Most injectable treatments result in temporary, mild redness and swelling. Some people develop absolutely no side effects from dermal fillers or Botox. Kybella is different. Because of the amount of deoxycholic acid that is injected, patients should expect tenderness and swelling to last a day or two. For this reason, some patients prefer to schedule Kybella treatment before a weekend when they can stay in and relax.
