I was born in a small, segregated community in Houston, Texas.

Life for me was always black and white until I went into middle school and I was one out of five black kids in the Albert Thomas Junior High. Learning and living in a community that was transitioning was stifling, and I knew that I had to get out of the bubble.

That lead me to enlist in the military and travel to Okinawa, Japan where I served as a medic long enough to raise my son. Living in Japan gave me the chance to breathe deeply and examine myself and the world in a whole new way.

I felt as if I finally fit in, as I realized the bubble had been popped. During that time I was introduced to Japanese skin treatments that inspired my love for cosmetology, and would eventually lead me to become a medical esthetician. I’ve been with Dr. Fante for over eight years now, and it is a freeing feeling to be part of a team that loves you for who you are and encourages you to bring your passion to the job each day

I’m a mother of 3 amazing boys – one of which currently plays football for the Naval Academy and the youngest is a 3 sport athlete at RJHS.

I am the parent that’s usually screaming and cheering at the football stadiums, a basketball gym, or at a track & field event.

My days can fill up with practices and traveling to games. I’m also a proud fur-mom of 4 very lazy English Bulldogs named Nala, Simba, Maui, and the very naughty Moana. They are known to keep our family busy! As a water baby growing up, you can find my family spending the summers on the boat wakeboarding, cruising and having plain old fun-in-the-sun. Between my boys, the dogs (and their loud snoring), and attended games my house can get a little hectic. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Sometimes my kids complain about how there isn’t enough room in the house for my books.

This is amusing since I could just as easily complain about their shoes or footballs! But there is something about sitting down and reading a good book that fills me up and makes me feel good.

I love reading, and I especially love to become connected with characters, to learn about their backgrounds, and to empathize with their needs. I collect books because each book makes me look at the world in a different way, and I treasure both my broadened perspective and the story itself. Recently I have finally connected my love of reading to one of the reasons I continue to enjoy my job so much, over the 14 years that I’ve been working with Dr. Fante. I love hearing the stories of our patients and then being part of making their stories become better. For this, and for the chance to work on such a terrific team, I am grateful.

Being born in Texas, raised in Michigan, and rooted in a deep Chinese heritage that my parents brought over as immigrants, I’ve always been searching for what defines me.

I discovered that I find the most comfort and understanding through the small moments of life; whether it’s hammocking under the stars in Michigan’s U.P.,

sharing a moon cake during the Mid-Autumn Festival, or just finally taking the time to clean out my car. As a newcomer to Colorado, you can find me on the weekends volunteering to walk dogs or trying out a new cookie recipe. On weekdays I’m very excited to be a part of such a warm and welcoming team here at Fante Eye & Face Centre where I look forward to meeting you and all the small moments that may follow.

Music is what fuses my family together. From our birthplace in Jamaica to America’s Rocky Mountains, we have always traveled in song.

Singing and dancing along to everything from show tunes to Marvin Gaye to Beyonce are part of our repertoire we know and love.

It doesn’t matter if we are in the grocery store or here with Dr. Fante, my sisters and I will belt out a tune (or at least a little hum). I believe that music is just good for the soul, as it is the one thing that not only centers you, but can bring you into a great state of mind. There are many things that I love about this office, but one thing that has kept me here for over 16 years is the fact that everyone has their own song, and they are encouraged to sing it loud and proud. Is our combined song slightly noisy at times? Yes, and things can get hectic, but I thrive because we always get back to the rhythm.

I’m a Denver native who loves all that Colorado has to offer and while Colorado is in my blood, travel is in my heart. When I was in high school, we hosted an exchange student from Brazil.

The experience of hosting an exchange student opened my eyes, broadened my horizons, and kindled a passion for travel.

In previous job positions, I learned that I have an affinity for and enjoy engaging with and helping patients by answering their questions and easing their fears. I am thrilled to apply those skills and expand my knowledge base into a new field, alongside a fantastic and supportive team.

I was born and raised in Colorado and don’t ever plan on leaving. It’s magical here.

In my free time I love hanging out with my family, reading, and learning about beauty and skincare. My interests are ever changing so it’s been hard to pinpoint what I want to be when I “grow up.” There are two things in this life that I have been and always will be passionate about, which are music and animals.

I love how music can capture a mood or a time and place that the listener can relate to and be transported back to that feeling or situation. It’s very therapeutic. I am, however, most passionate about animals, and more specifically dogs. Dogs are so undoubtably loyal and loving animals, all with their own personalities and quirks. I think dogs can also be therapeutic, because what’s better than coming home after a long trying day to an adorable fluffy face who is genuinely so happy to see you, for no other reason than they whole heartedly love you.

Although I have lived in Colorado for over 30 years, I was born and raised in Minnesota. Minnesota will always be home to me, and I dream of going back one day.

However, the Colorado winters just can’t be beat! I grew up in a very small town of just 160 people, the daughter of a farmer. Can I drive a tractor? Ya, you betcha! Will they ask me to do it again? No, I don’t think so!
I am the proud mom to a grown daughter who inspires me with her courage to try new and often hard things. My husband and I enjoyed cheering her on as a varsity diver in high school, and we continue to watch her grow in the sport of Taekwondo where she currently holds her second degree black belt. In my free time I enjoy yard work and flower gardening, cooking, organizing, and shopping stores to see all that is new.

It is an honor to be a member of the caring team at Fante Eye & Face Centre. I look forward to meeting you and sharing a little bit of “Minnesota Nice” with you.

My son’s feet barely dangled over the airplane seat when we traveled to Israel for the first time. Even though he was only five and this was our first time traveling overseas together,

I wasn’t nervous. It was time to go back to our roots.

I am originally from Babruysk, Russia which is now Belarus. As a child I was raised in the Jewish faith, and my parents would always tell me stories of the Wailing Wall, a holy monument in Jerusalem. When we finally arrived in the city I felt such a radical experience. Everyone of different ages, backgrounds, and faiths had traveled to the Wall — all in awe of the history and the importance of the monument. It was if I was home, but I had never been there before.

I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to Denver as a young adult.

Although I miss seeing the ocean I really love the mountains, the colors and the seasons, especially Fall. I enjoy exploring Colorado or staying at home working in my own garden.

I raised 3 wonderful children in Colorado and have an adorable grandson who keeps me very busy. Exploring takes on a whole new meaning when you share things with a grandchild. I came to work at Fante Eye & Face Centre after 35 years in the legal field and 9 months of retirement! I’m enjoying the new challenges, learning and working in the medical field, as well as working with such great people.
