I was born in a small, segregated community in Houston, Texas. Life for me was always black and white until I went into middle school and I was one out of five black kids in the Albert Thomas Junior High. Learning and living in a community that was transitioning was stifling, and I knew that I had to get out of the bubble. That lead me to enlist in the military and travel to Okinawa, Japan where I served as a medic long enough to raise my son. Living in Japan gave me the chance to breathe deeply and examine myself and the world in a whole new way. I felt as if I finally fit in, as I realized the bubble had been popped. During that time I was introduced to Japanese skin treatments that inspired my love for cosmetology, and would eventually lead me to become a medical esthetician. I’ve been with Dr. Fante for over eight years now, and it is a freeing feeling to be part of a team that loves you for who you are and encourages you to bring your passion to the job each day.
I was born and raised in Kazakhstan, and knew from the age of 13 that I wanted to spend my life caring for people and animals. I am the child of a family of engineers and it was my father who talked only of practicality and discouraged anything else, so I dutifully went to school and received my Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering. But now I know that a dream isn’t easily forgotten.
Fifteen years ago, I arrived in the U.S. unable to speak English but was quickly able to find work as a cosmetics manager in a chic department store. I was energized by my introduction to the world of beauty! I reignited my passion for helping others and became a licensed medical esthetician. I love to volunteer in the community and to be active outdoors with my son in beautiful Colorado. Everything I dreamt of is here at ReDerm MD Medical Spa: the patients, the environment and the opportunity to give my best to others through the services we offer.

Sometimes my kids complain about how there isn’t enough room in the house for my books. This is amusing since I could just as easily complain about their shoes or footballs! But there is something about sitting down and reading a good book that fills me up and makes me feel good. I love reading, and I especially love to become connected with characters, to learn about their backgrounds, and to empathize with their needs. I collect books because each book makes me look at the world in a different way, and I treasure both my broadened perspective and the story itself. Recently I have finally connected my love of reading to one of the reasons I continue to enjoy my job so much, over the 14 years that I’ve been working with Dr. Fante. I love hearing the stories of our patients and then being part of making their stories become better. For this, and for the chance to work on such a terrific team, I am grateful.
Music is what fuses my family together. From our birthplace in Jamaica to America’s Rocky Mountains, we have always traveled in song. Singing and dancing along to everything from show tunes to Marvin Gaye to Beyonce are part of our repertoire we know and love. It doesn’t matter if we are in the grocery store or here with Dr. Fante, my sisters and I will belt out a tune (or at least a little hum). I believe that music is just good for the soul, as it is the one thing that not only centers you, but can bring you into a great state of mind. There are many things that I love about this office, but one thing that has kept me here for over 16 years is the fact that everyone has their own song, and they are encouraged to sing it loud and proud. Is our combined song slightly noisy at times? Yes, and things can get hectic, but I thrive because we always get back to the rhythm.

It was Benny who made me look forward to Mondays. The first time he said, “Waddup, Jess” was in 2013 when I met him at a running group called Achilles International that pairs individuals with disabilities with running guides. Three years later, we are still running around Denver together. The way he throws his hands up in the air at the finish and says with a grin, “We really did it Jess,” has made me more appreciative of the small victories in life. I also enjoy serving on the board of a local non-profit called LIM359, an activities based-support group for people with limb loss and limb difference. When I’m not busy in Denver, I’m likely visiting family in the south or seeing a new country! Here at Dr. Fante’s office, our team also supports a range of Denver charities because we all believe it’s important to do what we can in making life better for others.
My son’s feet barely dangled over the airplane seat when we traveled to Israel for the first time. Even though he was only five and this was our first time traveling overseas together, I wasn’t nervous. It was time to go back to our roots. I am originally from Babruysk, Russia which is now Belarus. As a child I was raised in the Jewish faith, and my parents would always tell me stories of the Wailing Wall, a holy monument in Jerusalem. When we finally arrived in the city I felt such a radical experience. Everyone of different ages, backgrounds, and faiths had traveled to the Wall — all in awe of the history and the importance of the monument. It was if I was home, but I had never been there before.
