How Does Skinpen® Work?

skin pen facial aging Immediately following an injury, our skin begins the process of dissolving tissue damage and replacing it with new cells and extracellular matrix (ECM). Microneedling allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair process by creating precise, micro-injuries in the skin to automatically trigger remodeling without causing scar tissue formation.

What Are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Microneedling, sometimes referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy, is beneficial because skin remodeling can help reduce the signs of:

  • Aging
  • Improve the appearance of acne scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Rejuvenate aging skin

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling With Skinpen®?

One of the most exciting things about SkinPen® is that it can be used on all types of skin, on all skin colors. Talk to one of our providers to discuss your specific needs.

What Areas of the Body Can Be Treated With Microneedling?

SkinPen®’s variable needle depth allows for versatility and therefore it can be used on many parts of the body, including the face, neck, and décolleté. We have also had results using it on stretch-marks and scars on various parts of the body.

How Long is the Microneedling Procedure?

The procedure typically takes 30 minutes to one-hour pending the area being treated. Most SkinPen users apply a topical anesthetic to the skin prior to the procedure. We would like you to arrive 15-30 minutes prior to your appointment to apply the topical anesthetic for your comfort.

Is Microneedling Painful?

An anesthetic can be applied prior to treatment to minimize any discomfort you may feel. Each patient is different, so it is important to discuss your options prior to treatment. If you feel any serious discomfort during treatment, please alert your provider immediately.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of procedures required will be determined by one of our skincare professionals based upon your individual procedure goals and the health of your skin. Most patients receive a series of 3 procedures spaced about 4 weeks apart. Your provider will develop a procedure plan specific to you and also a maintenance plan to help maintain the rejuvenating effects. If you are addressing a scar treatment plan, you will most likely have a series of 4 procedures.

Recovery After Skinpen® Microneedling

The total healing time depends on each individual patient. Most patients have some slight swelling and redness/pinkness (like a mild sunburn) for 2-4 days. Some of our patients heal quickly within 24 hours. *Individual results will vary; mild peeling may occur.

How Long Will It Take to See Results After Microneedling?*

Patients may notice healthier-looking skin immediately. However, the natural repair process of your own skin continues to progress over the course of several weeks. Keep in mind dermal collagen remodeling takes place over time. Damage that has occurred over an extensive period of time won’t disappear immediately. You may not see the final result for up to 3-6 months following your final session.

*Individual results will vary
