Are you a trend-watcher? See how fillers are changing lips across the land

We love watching new trends emerge. Some fade away quickly, while others make a mark that remains for many years. Today, the hot new trend on everyone lips – quite literally, is lip augmentation.

In our Denver plastic surgery and medical spa, one of the requests we are receiving more and more is aimed at the highly visible area of the mouth. The trend began late last year when images of one of the Kardashian Family, Kylie Jenner, plastered just about every magazine stand across the country. The feedback on Jenner’s new lips was mixed, mainly due to the young star’s age (just 17).

There is no denying that her plastic surgeon did wonderful work with temporary fillers. There is also no denying that many women now want a pout just like hers. Before jumping in to the filler pool, it is important to know what to expect from lip fillers, and to ascertain if this treatment is really right for you. If you’re not sure, give us a call to schedule a consultation. We are happy to discuss your concerns, and let you know how they may be corrected.

When Lip Plumping Makes Sense

In Kylie Jenner’s case, lip augmentation really makes sense. Judging by her “before” images, her upper lip was very thin. VERY thin. This is a classic case for dermal fillers. Another reason why lip augmentation may be performed is to fill out lips that have flattened out over time as a result of aging. Outside of these situations, one must be very careful not to overfill lips that are already beautifully full.

Does Lip Augmentation Seem Right for you?

If you are certain that you want to bring out more fullness around your mouth, there are steps you can follow to your best results:

  • Seek care from a highly trained, experienced injector. It is not enough to be familiar with injectables in general. Direct experience performing lip augmentation, and evidence of success via before and after images, is necessary.
  • Talk with your injector about your desired aesthetic, but also be open to what will look best on your face. The goal is to bring out your best, not to look like someone else.

Reduce the appearance of age no matter how old you are!

No matter how you look at it, there is no way to stop the hands of time. This means that there really is no way to avoid the effects of aging, and how they affect your appearance. We are fortunate, though, to have innovative science at our fingertips. Today, men and women of all ages have the opportunity to at least slow down their own unique process of cosmetic aging. We are happy to assist our patients in looking and feeling their best. And we are often able to do so without surgery.

Botox

Botox has deep roots in clinical medicine. In the mid 20th century, the base substance of Botox Cosmetic was frequently used to help patients with muscular disorders gain comfort from unexpected spasms and tension. It was in clinical use where the cosmetic advantages of this neuromodulator were discovered. Today, Botox is one of the most common anti-aging treatments; popular amongst men and women of all ages.

Fillers

One of the reasons that the signs of aging become more and more obvious is because the body produces less and less collagen with every passing year. As stores become depleted, the matrix that lies just beneath the skin can no longer support upper layers of tissue as it once did. The result: deflated cheeks, saggy jowls, under eye bags, and the appearance of age. Fillers quickly resolve fine lines and wrinkles by plumping them with a biocompatible material that the body metabolizes over several months time.

Collagen Boosting

Because most of the signs of aging that occur in the skin are related to collagen loss, it would make sense to restore youthful skin with collagen itself. This is a method that was once much more common that it is today. Due to the need for testing prior to treatment, collagen injections have taken a backseat to filler products such as Sculptra. This injectable is more than a filler, it is a substance that prompts the body to generate additional collagen for up to 2 years.
