Questions About Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery (or blepharoplasty) is a cosmetic procedure that can help diminish bags under the eyes or extra skin on the eyelids. Aging is something we all must inevitably face, and with aging comes sagging skin. The eyelids are no exception, and they may start to sag as you get older. This sagging skin over your eye can, in some cases, affect eyesight. If you are considering eyelid surgery, here are some questions and answers that may help in deciding whether to move forward with blepharoplasty. You can also contact the Fante Eye & Face Centre to schedule an initial consultation with cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Robert Fante, if you are considering eyelid surgery in Denver.

Am I a candidate for eyelid surgery?

A good candidate for eyelid surgery is usually 35 years of age or older and in good health. However, there have been reasons for younger people to seek this surgery as well. If you find you have excess bags under your eyes, that the top of your eyelids droop, or that you have excessive wrinkles around your eyes, you may be the perfect candidate for eyelid surgery in Denver or anywhere else for that matter.

How long will recovery take?

Most people find they are able to return to work just two weeks after surgery. You may still have some slight bruising and scarring, but that will heal with time. You can help the healing process by keeping your head elevated, icing your eyes to reduce the swelling, and taking Tylenol to help with any minimal pain you may experience. Once you are fully healed, there will not be any visible scars.

Does insurance cover eyelid surgery?

There are cases where your insurance may cover the cost of eyelid surgery. For example, if your upper eyelids droop so far as to interfere with your vision, your insurance company may cover the cost. This differs depending on your policy, however, so you may want to call your insurance company and ask.

Is the result of eyelid surgery permanent?

Surgery on the lower eyelids is almost always permanent and never needs to be redone. Surgery on the upper eyelids is not permanent, but usually lasts about seven to ten years. Your eyes will still continue to age after eyelid surgery, however, it is a wonderful solution that lasts far longer than most of the cosmetic surgery alternatives.

If you would like to know more about blepharoplasty or whether or not you are a candidate, please contact the Fante Eye & Face Centre today to discuss eyelid surgery in Denver performed by cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Robert Fante.
