How Should You Rejuvenate Your Aging Face?

You know you want to do something. Those creases between your nose and mouth seem to be getting deeper all the time. Your face looks tired, or it looks gaunt and unhealthy, or it looks sad or angry. These are all common concerns expressed by patients who visit our Denver plastic surgery office and medical spa. We are more than happy to help every one of our patients feel like their best selves. If you are ready, you only have to ask a few questions to determine how you might want to approach your beauty concerns. Here, we discuss the questions that pertain to results between surgical and nonsurgical facial rejuvenation.

Results: How Quickly Do You Want Them?

Once you know you want to do something about the signs of aging, you probably want to get results as quickly as you can. Who doesn’t? This is why dermal fillers and Botox have become the leading non-surgical treatments for facial rejuvenation. One visit to our med spa may take less than an hour, including our consultation time, and the treatment can produce immediate improvements like:

  • Reduction in horizontal lines on the forehead
  • Lifted eyebrows and more open eyes
  • Smoothed undereye bags
  • More contoured cheekbones
  • Fuller lips
  • Correction of creases around the nose and mouth
  • Elimination of mild jowling
  • Double chin reduction

Now, not all of these concerns go away in a single visit. It depends on how each is treated. When a product like Botox is used, results develop over a week. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, immediately plump the skin. The effects of these combined treatments can take up to 10 years off the face. Injections need to be repeated as often as every 3 to 6 months, though, with some products lasting as long as 2 years.

Results: How Long Do You Want Them to Last?

There is no denying the appeal of nonsurgical treatment that gets immediate results. However, those benefits have to be weighed against the longevity that can be achieved as well as the extent of improvement. More significant jowling and tissue laxity may be improved with injectables but not completely erased. A facelift can do that, though. Facelift surgery repositions tissue that has moved downward on the face so it sits over the bony structure of the mid-face once again. This eliminates jowls and drooping skin below the jawline and chin. It restores some of the contouring of the cheeks, as well. Most people who have a facelift do not need a second one to address ongoing age-related changes. What a facelift cannot do, however, is refresh the eyes or forehead. This can be done with an eyelid or forehead lift in combination with the facelift. A facelift can also be combined with injectables for even better results.
