New Beauty Buzz: What is Jeuveau?

In the beauty industry, we’ve come to expect to hear a new product name on a regular basis. Depending on the level of cosmetic effect, we may see new products as often as monthly or much less frequently. In the medical cosmetic arena, new products tend to come in waves. First, we had Botox, then a sea of dermal fillers, then an expansion of in that sea of wrinkle reducers. Now, we’ve got something we haven’t seen in a long while: a Botox competitor. In our Denver office, we’ve begun performing Jeuveau injections as a way to help patients manage cosmetic aging. If you’ve thought about getting Botox injections, you’ll want to know more about this new wrinkle-smoothing treatment.

Jeuveau: Is it Really the Big New Thing in Beauty?

Jeuveau is a neuromodulator. IT is made from botulinum toxin type A. Yes, that’s that same ingredient that makes Botox a wrinkle-fighting wonder-drug. The primary use of Jeuveau is to reduce the appearance of frown lines, also just like Botox in its early days. So why would the emergence of a new product be so newsworthy? There are a few key reasons.

One of the appealing aspects of Jeuveau is that the product has been developed by a manufacturer that is solely interested in aesthetics. Unlike Botox, Jeuveau is not utilized for excessive sweating, migraines, or other medical problems.

In clinical trials, product investigators found that younger patients reported a high satisfaction rate after Jeuveau injections. These patients tended to have little to no experience with Botox and a strong desire for natural-looking results.

The dosage instructions for Jeuveau are comparable to Botox: 20 units in the official dose. After injections, facial rejuvenation occurs gradually over the course of approximately 5 days for both drugs.  Side effects are also similar, typically limited to redness and swelling. Where clinical investigators saw a difference was in the longevity of results. Patients treated with Jeuveau maintained results with three treatments in the year-long study. With Botox, four treatments are usually the norm.

Some may have a difficult time discerning the differences between Botox and Jeuveau. However, to the trained eye, these differences are much more apparent. We are excited to have an additional wrinkle-reducing option to offer patients who want to correct or prevent the signs of aging using safe, effective techniques.
