Botox® and other neuromodulator injections can soften dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial movement, including frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, and other expression-related creases. Treatments such as Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau® work by temporarily relaxing targeted muscles, helping the skin appear smoother and more refreshed without surgery or significant downtime.
At Fante Eye & Face Center, patients from Denver, Greenwood Village, and surrounding Colorado communities receive cosmetic injection treatment s from doctors with advanced facial anatomy expertise. Dr. Robert Fante has authored scientific articles on the medical uses of botulinum toxin type A, while both Dr. Levitt and Dr. Huang are ASOPRS-trained surgeons and ASOPRS Candidate Members. Together, the team can help determine whether Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau®, dermal fillers, skin care, or another treatment is the best fit for your goals.
What is Botox®?
BOTOX® is a trade name for a refined version of the botulinum toxin type A, originally isolated and refined by researchers seeking to help people with eyelid and facial spasms. It has been safely used for this purpose since the 1980s. Dr. Robert Fante has authored scientific articles on the medical uses of botulinum toxin type A, and the team at Fante Eye & Face Center has extensive experience with cosmetic and therapeutic neuromodulator treatment s.
We’ve all heard that botulism is a form of food poisoning. Yikes. How can a poison be used therapeutically?
Well, not to worry. It’s only poisonous in a large dose, about 100 times what will be used cosmetically, because then it paralyzes muscles. For cosmetic treatment s, BOTOX® injections have been approved by the FDA. Injected precisely into specific muscle areas in tiny doses, it relaxes the muscle and relieves it of involuntary and unnecessary movement, thus preventing it from forming wrinkles.
Alternative brands of botulinum toxin type A, such as Dysport® and Xeomin®, are also available at our office. We will explain the differences below.

How Do Neurotoxins Such as Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin® Work?
We tend to learn facial habits as we grow up. Facial expressions that become habitual, over the years, start to create permanent lines. BOTOX®, Xeomin®, and Dysport® injections don’t completely stop muscle movement; they just relax the muscles and help the skin appear smoother. This gives us a refreshed look as if we had a good night’s sleep and feel in a good mood.
What is Xeomin®?
Xeomin® is an injectable composed of botulinum toxin type A, a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When Xeomin® is injected into the muscles, it reduces their activity, resulting in smoother, less noticeable wrinkles. Xeomin® does not stop the muscle from moving entirely; instead, it modifies the contractions. This is achieved by inhibiting a body chemical called acetylcholine from signaling the nerves in the muscle to contract.
The number of injections necessary will vary from patient to patient, depending upon the area of concern. The results of treatment with Xeomin® are usually seen after one week and last, on average, up to 12 weeks.

What is Dysport®?
Dysport® is an FDA-approved injectable. It temporarily lessens or eliminates moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Dysport® is made from a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum; it is the same neurotoxin used in BOTOX® Cosmetic.
Similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® is injected directly into the muscle beneath a furrow, weakening the muscle to the point where it cannot contract.

What is Jeuveau®?
Jeuveau® is a newly FDA-approved neurotoxin intended to reduce facial lines from chronic muscle contraction. It is also an acetylcholine-release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent indicated for temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate-to-severe glabellar lines associated with corrugator and/or procerus muscle activity in adult patients.
Jeuveau® is an alternative neurotoxin that appears to work as well as Botox® in most people and may be more effective for certain individuals, including those who have developed immune resistance to other botulinum toxin products. It is difficult to measure the potential effect of neutralizing antibodies in individual patients on the effects of specific botulinum toxin brands. Instead, a treating physician may try another brand to see whether effectiveness can be enhanced. Like Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®, Jeuveau® may have advantages for particular patients.
Patient Testimonials
You will not find a more caring and professional staff anywhere. It is truly an amazing medical office. Dr. Fante preserved my “functional” life many years ago by surgically treating my blepharospasm and now continues with timely Botox injections. Dr. Fante is talented and caring; a wonderful combination in a physician!
Dr. Fante and assistants have a wonderful way with patients. I felt well informed and treated with respect. I had a Botox treatment and may do an eye procedure in the future. Thank you for your care!
What Can I Expect During My Cosmetic Injection Treatment?
Using a very fine needle, the injectable is injected directly into the facial muscles, causing furrows and lines. No anesthetic is required, but some doctors numb the area to be injected with ice packs or topical anesthetic cream. Patients can usually see results within a few days, and the results typically last 4-6 months. In some cases, areas treated regularly may retain results longer.
-
Beforehand, several photographs of your face will be taken from different angles so you can compare your new look with your previous one.
-
The injections take only a few minutes and are done with a very fine needle. There’s not much pain, but some people feel minor, temporary discomfort.
-
There’s no recovery time necessary. Most people return to work or their normal activities right after treatment .
The Benefits of Neuromodulators
The benefits of neurotoxins such as Botox® extend beyond the anti-aging effects this treatment achieves. Patients appreciate that neurotoxin injection is a quick, convenient treatment that requires no downtime. Though results are not immediate, they appear gradually over just a few days, making wrinkle-reduction possible even when a special event is on the horizon. The fact that Botox® provides temporary cosmetic improvement is also a benefit; this characteristic helps those new to this treatment explore facial rejuvenation without committing to permanent changes to their appearance.

What to Expect After Treatment
-
Avoid rubbing the injected areas for 3 or 4 hours
-
We will have discussed bruising with you, and if it’s a concern, avoid taking any aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil) for a day or two.
-
You’ll see the results anywhere from 2 to 7 days later.
-
You’ll notice that deeper wrinkles will become lighter and light ones will almost disappear.
-
Some people go on to have injections of a filler substance, such as Restylane® or Juvéderm®. This fills out the skin that was furrowed, making it smoother.
-
If you have several deeper wrinkles, you might decide to have additional Botox® injections to achieve your best results.

Side Effects and Safety of Neuromodulators
Botox® has a long history of use in both clinical settings and aesthetic medicine. When used cosmetically, neuromodulators such as Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau® are injected in small, targeted amounts to temporarily relax selected muscles.
Side effects are usually mild and temporary. Patients may experience redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, headache, or mild flu-like symptoms after treatment . Rarely, temporary eyelid drooping or other unwanted muscle effects can occur. If you notice unexpected side effects after treatment, please contact our office.
It is important to receive neuromodulator injections from a licensed, experienced professional. At Fante Eye & Face Center, injections are planned with careful attention to facial anatomy, expression, safety, and natural-looking results.
How Are Neurotoxins Such as Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin® Different From Dermal Fillers?
Both Botox® and dermal fillers are injectable wrinkle-reducers. However, neurotoxins and dermal fillers are very different products. Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin® are each neuromodulator, that smooth lines, and wrinkles by diminishing muscle contractions. They are the injectables that we turn to when lines are caused by muscle movements. Examples include frown lines and worry lines on the forehead. Dermal fillers do not affect the muscles; they affect the skin itself. These products contain ingredients that build volume beneath the epidermis. By adding volume, a dermal filler plumps tissue, bringing a crease to the surface of the surrounding skin for a smoothing result. Because neuromodulators such as Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin® and dermal fillers work differently, they make very good partners for improving facial contours.
Alternatives to Botox® and Neuromodulator Injections
Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau® are effective for dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated muscle movement, but they are not the best solution for every concern. Depending on your goals, our team may recommend alternatives such as dermal fillers, laser resurfacing, chemical peels, professional skin care, microneedling, or surgical facial rejuvenation.
For example, fillers may be more appropriate for volume loss or deeper folds, while laser treatment s or skin care may be better suited for texture, pigmentation, or sun damage. During your consultation, our team can explain which option or combination of treatments may best fit your facial anatomy and goals.
Frequently Asked Questions
Neurotoxin injections with drugs such as Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin® are among the most popular treatment s performed today. One reason is that injectable treatment is only minimally uncomfortable. Patients tolerate multiple injections very well without the need for any type of anesthetic. The only discomfort associated with this treatment is a minor sensation when the tiny needle touches the skin. The introduction of Botox® into the muscle causes no sensation. Patients also recover quickly from injections, with no post-treatment soreness or tenderness.
The best candidates for these drugs are adults in good physical health who wish to temporarily smooth dynamic lines and wrinkles. Treatment should be postponed if there is a skin infection at the proposed injection sites. Use of neurotoxins such as Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin® is also not suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Typically, BOTOX® is injected into 4 or 5 areas on each side of your forehead and 2 or 3 areas around each eye. Other areas around the mouth and neck can also be treated. But of course, each face is unique. So we will work with you to use the right number of small injections in the right places to deliver optimal results. Our doctors have extensive experience with these treatment.
Every case is unique. The overall cost of facial rejuvenation with these drugs is determined by several factors, including the areas to be treated and the degree of facial rejuvenation required. Many patients have multiple concerns, such as crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes and drooping or heavy eyebrows. To address both areas of concern, additional treatment units are needed. Furthermore, treatment with neurotoxins such as Botox®, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin® is often combined with dermal fillers to achieve the best results. During our consultation with each patient, we discuss their broader objective in obtaining treatment and develop a recommended treatment plan based on their goals. At that time, we can provide a detailed list of costs.
Results from Botox® and similar neuromodulators typically last about 3 to 4 months, though duration can vary by product, treatment area, dose, metabolism, and individual response. Jeuveau® has a similar duration of action to Botox®, averaging about 12 weeks.
With regular treatment, some patients find that certain muscles become trained to relax, allowing them to maintain results with fewer treatments over time. Our team can recommend a treatment schedule based on your response and goals.
Why Choose Fante Eye & Face Center for Botox® and Neuromodulator Injections?
Neuromodulator injections require precise placement because small changes in facial muscle activity can affect expression, symmetry, eyelid position, brow position, and overall facial balance. At Fante Eye & Face Center, treatment s are planned with careful attention to facial anatomy, natural movement, and each patient’s goals.
The doctors at Fante Eye & Face Center bring advanced experience in oculofacial plastic surgery, facial aesthetics, and the medical use of botulinum toxin type A. This background is especially important when treating delicate areas around the eyes, brows, forehead, and upper face.
Because Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau® are not the only options for facial rejuvenation, our team can also help determine whether dermal fillers, skin care, laser treatment s, or surgery may better address your concerns.
