What does microdermabrasion do?

It smoothes out roughened skin, removing superficial defects like age spots, blackheads, shallow scars, and fine lines.

Would I be a candidate for microdermabrasion?

If the skin problems you’d like to correct are caused by sun damage rather than by aging, then yes, you’re probably a candidate. Although there is some skin tightening in microdermabrasion, it’s mainly for correcting surface irregularities. If you’re looking to improve skin sagging or jowls, ask Dr. Fante and his staff about other alternatives.

Does microdermabrasion have to be repeated indefinitely?

For optimum maintenance of the results, it does need to be repeated. Some people have it done as often as every month, but this would be an individual choice and we can help you decide how often would be often enough in your case.

How long does microdermabrasion take?

Somewhere between a half-hour and an hour. There’s virtually no pain or discomfort. You can apply makeup directly after your treatment is finished. Sometimes your skin might be a little reddened, but the makeup can cover that.

Afterwards you can go back to work, or your normal activities.

Is microdermabrasion safe?

Yes. Since it works only on the top level of the skin, it’s non-invasive, and creates no risk. The most you might notice is a bit of redness afterwards, which fades within a few hours.

Does it matter what age I am?

No, as long as you’re over 18. Younger people tend to have microdermabrasion to treat acne scars. Older people tend to have it to treat fine lines and sun damage.
