And Your Spirit
First there was dermabrasion, then microdermabrasion. These are still excellent procedures, and now a Micro Laser Peel is another effective way to treat the years of sun damage that most of us have to show for our years of fun.
What is a micro laser peel?
It’s a smoothing and polishing of the skin, with a view to removing damage and increasing the skin’s vitality. It’s a type of exfoliation and can be done to varying depths, decided upon with Dr. Fante and his staff before beginning.
The procedure
- Before you have this procedure, you should go through a conditioning skin care program that uses topical products.
- A half-hour or an hour before the treatment, a topical anesthetic is applied.
- With the topical anesthetic and cold air from a special machine, there’s almost no pain.
- The Sciton Erbium laser controls the exact depth during the procedure and usually works to a depth of 30 to 40 microns
- It’s usually done in a series of 4 treatments, spaced apart by 3 months.
- Careful ongoing skin care during the treatment period is recommended to maximize the results. Dr. Fante and his staff will work with you on this.
Recovery and results
- Recovery time is 3 to 7 days, depending on the depth of treatment you had, and on your individual healing pattern
- There’ll be some redness for about 2 days
- You can be back at work after 4 days or so
- You’ll have significantly less sun damage
- The fine lines take a bit longer to disappear because it’s the result of collagen remodeling in response to the laser light, and this takes several months to happen
- The results will be affected by your pre-treatment, ongoing skin care, and on your skin type
